The Yucatan Peninsula has two International airports: Cancun and Merida. Cancun has arrivals from around the globe while Merida is serviced with daily flights from Mexico City, Houston, Atlanta and Miami.
From Cancun to Merida by car: You can rent a car from a variety of agencies at the International airport and drive across the Yucatan Peninsula. The toll highway between Cancun and Merida is excellent and the journey will take about 3 hours. If you plan to take your time, you may want to visit the stunning Cenote Dzitnup in the city of Valladolid, the world famous archaeological site of Chichen Itza and/or the magnificent 6th century Franciscan Convent of Izamal on your way over. Upon arriving into Merida you may choose to spend some time or continue on to Celestun.
From Merida to Celestun by car: Rental cars can be arranged at the International airport or in town. Leave Merida in the south on route no.180 and drive towards Uman. In Uman, take the 3rd street to the right after the town square, take route no. 281 to the towns of Samahil, Kinchil,and Celestun. Once in Celestun, head past the town square and towards the beach road or Calle 12. Turn right and follow the road north for approximately one kilometre.
